WiFi stick herkenningsproblemen ...

Hallo,

op een desktop-PC met erop Ubu 10.04LTS, wordt een D-Link DWA-131 N Nano USB
WiFi stick niet herkend:
het is de driver die voor de kernel 2.6.32-* -toevallig- niet herkend wordt,
wel als het blijkbaar een .31 of .33 was geweest.

Intussen heb ik wel de HowTo gevonden om zelf de (in feite RTL8192SU) driver
te compileren, maar ...
1) met Lynx geraak ik niet aan het driverpakket (javascript @ de officiële
website)
2) er wordt letterlijk gezegd dat telkens er een nieuwe kern binnen komt, je
dan opnieuw de driver moet compileren, en daar heb ik echt geen zin in!

Vraag: is er iemand hier die een Ubuntu 10.04 draait of draaide, en een
bepaald model van WiFi USB stick erop gebruikte, "out of the box" ?

PS: zeer merkwaardig maar op een Debian Stable met een oudere kernel wordt
deze device WEL herkend, nadat je een pakket genaamd firmware-realtek
installeer; waarom bestaat dit dan niet in Ubuntu 10.x ?

Ubuntu 10.04 verloopt deze maand. Is dit alles nu nog de moeite waard?
Overigens werkten mijn beide USB- Wifi sticks, van ICIDU, "out of the
box" op Ubuntu 10.04.

Hoi Jaap,

JRL heeft me op het juiste spoor gezet, in Ubuntu is de locatie van de
rtl8192su verkeerd van "fabrieksafaan"; in Debian niet. Jouw chip en dus
stick is helemaal iets anders, Atheeros 9k types zijn ondersteund, dus niet
van toepassing hier tov Realtek chip.
Toch bedankt voor feedback.

Kan je me een output van lsusb met die stick erin, doorsturen ? of kan je me

Here’s quick fix for annoyed users with Realtek RTL8192SU WiFi chipsets
wanting some WiFi…


“On 10.04 & 10.10 the firmware is already there but its in the wrong
location.”

The solution to is open a terminal and pop in the following command: -

sudo cp -R /lib/firmware/RTL8192SE /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU

Reboot and, fingers crossed, your dongle will be up and receiving –
certainly worked for me!

Need to find out what chipset your dongle uses? Plug it in, open a
terminal and type ‘lsusb’. All connected USB devices will be listed.
