Why would you expect the same feature to work
the same way in every group ?

What fun would that be ?

WRZ
Actually, I was referring to the message search function, which I
now discover IS working on this list.
Sorry about that. I know some have been changed to the new one but
my lists all still have the old, non-working ones.

What is the Updates Email?
Last Updated: September 20, 2010 Text Size: A A A

Updates Email is a new type of email that allows you to keep up to
date on activity (except for messages) in the last 24 hours across all
your Yahoo! Groups in a single email.
For each group, the following activities are included in the Updates emails:
New photos
New applications, application entries, and comments
New members (but only for groups with less than 100 members)
New links
New files
New polls
New database tables
Another way to look at it is that virtually all activity in your
groups is included except:
Messages.
Calendar events
Database entries
Go Back to Group Members
Display in new window
SendPrint

I am new here, but new to groups or web page design. I have to say the
single most annoying thing to me is when I open a page and sound comes
out! It does not matter if it is music, or voice, I find it obtrusive.
I immediately close the page and never go back. Now one might say why
not just turn the sound off? Well, most of the time I am on my
computer at my bookstore and my computer is playing music through
speakers throughout the shop, so turning off the sound is not an
option. Either way, if one wants to put sound on a site, there should
be an option on the site to turn it on, not just to turn it off.

my two cents,
Joe
Thanks Shal-
I went ahead and fixed up a website for my group for ten bucks a
month. It is nice and worth it, but i still would like to know about
music on even webpages, is it illegal? I dont know much about
downloading music onto computer and how to put it on the webpage? if
anyone could point me in the right direction it would be grealy
appreciated.
I don't think it has been possible to add music since the
restrictions were placed on which HTML elements can be used in home
pages, some years ago.
As far as I can tell, all the HTML that works in Classic groups
continues to work in the New groups.

Can it still be done with all the changes of the layout? Can music
still be added?
Like the other posters, I can tell you that music or audio material is
an unwelcome experience to most web surfers. Audio material with no
advance warning can interrupt music that is already playing, wake up
people who might be sleeping in the same room or disrupt
conversations, prove embarrassing in social situations, get office
workers in trouble.

In general, unless your group is closed to membership by people who
expect music when they visit and are prepared with volume limitations,
headphones, or other precautions - I'd definitely steer way clear of
it. If you want new members or new people to join. I am in the
"close immediately" club. If I really need to go to the site, I'll
close it - turn down the volume or put headphones on - then go back.
I usually leave a message to the webmaster telling them how
unprofessional they are.

Ads are a constant nuisance when they do that. A particularly
annoying example is a sports site that advertises their football
coverage. Everywhere they advertise - loud sports music starts
playing with no option to turn off the sound. Around my house, NFL
stands for "Not For Long" anyway - but were I a fan, I would be even
less of one after this unwanted intrusion.

I agree Joe, there should be an option to turn music on .

To your two cents I would like to add my penny.

I keep my sound on the computer muted so I never hear anything I don't
want to. However music slows down the loading of things more often
than not. You can't assume your users are using the latest and
greatest computer with a perfect high speed internet. If your page
doesn't load fairly quickly and properly the first time, there may not
be a second try by some.

That is what I am doing, looks like the only route I can take. I run a
christian group by the way, everyone is different, I like to hear nice
soothing music while reading the homepage, and Im not the only one.
But point taken, I have come accross a way to put sound with the
option to turn music on or keep it off.

5a. Thanks..another question...Re: Unauthorized Intruder Moderating

Thanks Guys! She got out of Boxbe and so far no more incidences.
~Cool Boudee
Cool_Boudee,
Thanks to all who responded. What about something called "BOXE"? I
know >she has that and it sends an auto response.
Boxbe, if that's what you're referring to, would certainly be the
cause if it is sending an automatic challenge each time she receives
a notice of a pending message. Or a pending Member too, so if your
group has restricted membership beware!
At a minimum you should turn off notifications for this moderator,
at least until she figures out how to turn off the auto responses.
In My Opinion (also)...
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxbe>
Regardless of the allegations I think it is inappropriate to use
such a filter for a Yahoo Group, or other email list, where you
/expect/ to receive messages from all the other list members. I
think it is simply rude to expect all the other list members to jump
through whatever hoops your spam filter has set up. I don't know
whether ordinary group messages would provoke Boxbe's standard
"Click here to be put on my Guest List" email, nor whether those
would be returned to the posting member (causing annoyance) or to
Yahoo (a waste of bandwidth). I guess the fact that her email
address hasn't already been put on autoresponder status indicates
that Boxbe's responses to ordinary group messages are not going to
Yahoo.

6. Major layoffs in Yahoo Groups?
Posted by: "oth" ottawahitech-/***@public.gmane.org ottawahitech

Yahoo said to be rolling out layoffs

Multiple media outlets reported earlier this month that Yahoo was on
the verge of major layoffs, perhaps as high as 20 percent (but more
likely 10 percent) of the struggling technology company. On Tuesday,
TechCrunch reported that tipsters were contacting them to say the
layoffs had begun. The company's Yahoo Groups and Flickr divisions
were named specifically.
